Our salvaged kitchen remodel makes me smile every time I wake up in the morning to have my morning cup of chai tea, or coffee.
I have everything I need right here within my reach. My white tea-pot, my over sized coffee cups, my french press and small white plates. These wood shelves were salvaged from an old bed frame. The base cabinets and granite counter top are from the .existing kitchen. The microwave that once sat as a hood above the cooktop was salvaged and is now located below the countertop.
Right below are my French baskets full of teas, coffees and sugar in the raw. I bought the baskets from Target and the back wall tile was salvaged from a kitchen show room.
We painted the walls a soft gray, and painted our round table top white. The bottom of kitchen hood (which I call my hearth ) was an old hood found at a warehouse and he built the flue out of leftover plywood .
Where a desk once sat ,a new pantry was built and the door was re-used from the original pantry.
The small opening on the left is where the old pantry use to be, Darrill installed some white cabinets, and arched the opening and installed the wall tile around it. Here is a before picture of the same space.
As a kitchen designer for Home depot, and Expo company for 16 years, I was not happy to go through this remodel , but I can now honestly say, it was well worth it .
Thank-you, dear you did an amazing job,
it’s the kitchen I’ve always wanted .
My simple French tea started out with my dress form dressed for the occasion with a black corset and a white tutu with a black top hat. Maybe a little over the top but why not, it’s time for me to let my inner fun side out ! I wore my french skirt with my simple black top. Maria wore her french black and white tee with red pants and a little french hat. The banner was easy to make because I bought the flags from Micheal’s and just spray painted the letters black . I used my mismatched silver and my mic-matched white china cups for the tea. I hand stenciled numbers on my white plates. And I used a chandelier stamp for my napkins and for my menu cards.
cucumber sandwiches with fresh dill and cream cheese
crackers with lavender jelly
hot spiced tea with lavender sugar
pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting
The Tea was a success and we loved serving tea and talking to all the ladies who came by. I was asked for my cake recipe. I used a store-bought mix and added pineapple juice (instead of water ) and chucks to the cake batter. For the frosting I used 1 stick of butter and 1 package of cream cheese at room temperature. Then I added 1 cup of powdered sugar and blended well. I garnished the top with pineapple chucks.
A simple but fun tea, have a great week.
What could be more romantic then Cafe’s , coffee and bikes ? My most romantic moments of my life was when my sweetie and I had a 8 hour layover in Paris and we decided to hop on some bikes and see the town. We stopped at a Cafe and had cappuccinos, nothing has ever been as perfect as those few hours , and we had no plans, we just let it happen…

Tanya loves the color blue, her walls are blue and she has a beautiful glass dresser from Z-Gallerey. So I had her cake made like a Tiffany blue box with a white ribbon for her birthday.
She has a big clock and big silver candle holders with white candles.
I bought this antique silver and crystal cake plate at an antique store in Old Town Claremont.
And I had the cake say Tanya & Co. So very simple and so pretty.
Hope she likes it !

Join me on my Simply Earth blog this week , for a French inspired Christmas.
I love Black and White chic, for an event , a style of dress….for everyday table dishes. It’s a simply timeless color combination that always looks fresh. Add a touch of yellow or a touch of apple green, or even a touch of pink for a perfectly exciting effect. I have an entire vintage black and white wardrobe complete with colored shoes that I have had for a long time that still looks great today. And Black and White is so very French chic !
Hope everyone has a simply easy Sunday !
